About RentalWe

RentalWe is an independent publication for people who run short-term rentals — hosts with one unit, hosts with twenty, and the people deciding whether to become either.

Why this exists

Most writing about short-term rentals is produced by companies selling software to short-term rental hosts. The advice is often good and the incentive is always visible: the article ends where the product begins.

The rest is split between market-data terminals that are hard to act on and personal blogs that are hard to verify. What is missing is the thing a trade publication does — work through an operating question with the arithmetic shown, say where the numbers came from, and note the date the rules were checked.

Who writes it

RentalWe is written and edited by Tra Ly, who founded it in 2026, operates it from Da Nang, Vietnam, and is responsible for every piece on it. It is not a large team and does not pretend to be one: what it offers is a method rather than a claim to have done everything — each question is worked through from the primary documents (the ordinance, the platform's own policy, the tax authority's page), the arithmetic is shown, a second person reads every piece that makes a claim about money or law, and the date each rule was last checked is on the page. Where a piece draws on a host's first-hand operating experience, it says whose.

Every article carries a byline linking to a full biography, the date it was published, and the date it was last reviewed. Where an article makes a claim about money or about law, it cites a primary source with the date that source was read.

How we make money

Advertising and affiliate links. We say so on every page that carries either.

Advertising is served by Google and we do not choose the individual ads. Where we link to a product and earn a commission, a disclosure appears above the link, not in a footer. Neither arrangement changes what we recommend: a tool we would not use ourselves does not get recommended because it pays better, and the editorial policy sets out how that is kept true.

What we do not do

We do not manage anyone's property, take booking commissions, or sell a course. We do not publish sponsored articles or accept payment for a review. We do not republish other people's writing.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, tell us at hello@rentalwe.net and we will fix it and say what changed. Corrections are noted on the article rather than made quietly.
